The History of O & M Company
spanning multiple generations
Marion L. McDaniel
Founder of O & M Company
The foundation that would later become the O&M Company began during World War II. Marion L. McDaniel Sr. worked for the Marion Power Shovel where he helped out the war effort by subcontracting work to outside manufacturers. After the war was over Marion decided to move on.
In 1953 he decided to go into business for himself so he switched hats and started selling for the same companies he had worked with while he was at the Marion Power Shovel Company.
John McDaniel Sr.
That was the beginning of a fledgling Manufacturers Sales Agency. In 1956 John Wesley McDaniel, Marion’s youngest son, joined him in business while he was still pursuing his degree in Industrial Engineering. The two would work together growing the business until Marion’s passing in 1969.
In 1975 John brought in Dick Olson as a partner which is also how the O&M Company name was created. In 1981, after getting his marketing degree from The Ohio State University, John W. McDaniel joined his father in the Family Business.
Several years later Dick left the company, leaving O&M Company to John and John. They worked together growing the business into a very successful sales agency.
In 2017 John Wesley McDaniel decided to finally retire after 61 years. His Grandson, Devlin Hayes McDaniel, then joined the company to fill his vacancy.
Devlin Hayes McDaniel graduated from the Ohio State University with a degree in business management, where he also played football for four years including one National Championship.
Devlin is the fourth generation McDaniel to work for the O & M Company.
